Preparing For The Spring Garden Season
Updated: Feb 9, 2022
The excitement I have for spring is something I can't explain. I've been waiting on spring since September.

And yes, I know there are a few more months until Spring, but for us gardeners, this time of year is when we start preparing the garden so we can have a great spring harvest.
I've already started some seeds indoors.

Some of the plants will go outside soon, because they are cool weather crops. I currently have cauliflower, green and red cabbage, collard greens and more in the garden beds. I have more of those growing indoors that I will put in the garden beds after harvesting the previous veggies.

Then those will be harvest in spring before it gets too hot. But while those are growing, I will start the summer crops, and put those plants in the garden bed once I harvest the spring crops.
You see, it's all about rotation. I really want to stay on top of it this year because I want to make sure I can store enough food to feed the family. I also want to save on our grocery bill.

The wind was so bad yesterday that it destroyed our canopy. It is definitely a goner.

So on top of cleaning up the yard and extending the garden, we are going to build a pergola to replace the canopy. We have a lot of work to do, but it will be worth it. Watching your own food grow and then eating it is one of the most amazing things I have ever done.
